Last Kentucky Run

I didn’t write about Thursday and it was somewhat noteworthy. We made our last trip to Kentucky. For a long time now we have been going to an Amish farm to purchase raw and organic items, but they are changing their business and with the current circumstances (Kris is between clients) we find ourselves in, it is good timing for us as well.

It was a beautiful last trip. I didn’t feel like going, I was so tired and the thought of driving all that way was not appealing. It was worth it once again though. This time of year is just too lovely to overlook. How can you drive through such warm color and allow a sore back, a full schedule or anything else to cause you to wish you were somewhere else.

Of course my little point and shoot camera and a view through the glass of the van is going to give only a portion of the beauty, but it will give some idea of what we witnessed.

First I got the boys to say cheese and flipped my wrist toward the seat behind me to snap a picture of my traveling companions. They really screw up their faces to say cheese and it cracks me up. They almost look angry.

Then the scenery stole the show.

On the way home my boys were hungry…which made them really grumpy. I did not get them up early enough and they did not take advantage of the limited time they had for breakfast. They talked and played more than ate (which is typical) and by 10:00 were feeling pretty yucky. I yelled pretty harshly at Ivan because he was about to do something he was going to regret, and he cried as if I had thrown him across the van. I decided to do something I’ve been meaning to do for many months.

I always notice a little sign on the I-65 advertising an old fashioned soda shop at exit 112, but never feel like I have time to go…especially when there is milk in my van. Thursday the weather was cool enough that I didn’t feel bad about leaving the milk in the van (in a cooler) for a little while so that we could make a soda stop. They loved it. The little restaurant/drugstore/gift shop also had peanut butter and jelly sandwiches on the menu, so of course the boys split one and enjoyed a real strawberry ice cream soda. Good stuff.

  1. I remember my last milk run…I was relieved. It’s great to get healthy things but when it’s a really long drive it wears on you.

The scenery is perfect and I love that soda fountain. I’d like to go there sometime. I’m a sucker for little places like that.

And I get the faces now…funny.
