I totally missed Limerick Friday. I don’t apologize because I wouldn’t do anything differently were I given the chance. I got wrapped up in planning and preparing for Aron’s 2nd birthday and did not have time. I will wait until next week and hopefully two weeks of creative thought will allow something clever to spew forth from my brain.
Aron turned two yesterday and what a fun day we had. I made two lists on Thursday. No…I made three lists. I made a list of what I wanted my kitchen to look like when guests arrived, where the chili would be, where the drinks and ice cubes would go, what would be on the table etc. Then I made a list of what I would need to do on Friday to make that happen, frost cakes, make chili, mop the kitchen, etc. Then I made a list for Thursday that had all the things I could do ahead to better control the chaos of the last minute. My Thursday list had things like clean off my desk, clean out the fridge, straighten upstairs bedrooms. Things that don’t seem pertinent to the outcome but always seem to ruin my plans because they glare at me while I’m doing what should have been the last minute preparations. Guess what? It worked!
I was so proud of myself. The party was well attended in my opinion and I enjoyed everyone and wasn’t stressed over little things that normally stress me. I was ready for the party and had time to EAT before people got there. That is something I always wish I would have done because when I don’t eat I’m shaky and fidgety and I feel like I’m making people uncomfortable. So I eat while everyone else is eating and then I feel like I should be running around helping people instead of eating. I even fed the kids beforehand so that there would be room at the table for the guests and it just worked. I had time to enjoy the freshly cleaned and quiet house before our friends showed up and didn’t feel overtired after everyone left. It was great. I hope everyone else enjoyed it as much as I did. Oh…and I was able to take a break at lunch to take Aron and Ivan to “Chicken Nugget” for his birthday. Oh again…it would be horrible of me to neglect to praise my husband as well. I asked him if he would help me out a bit and mentioned that I would need the living room vacuumed. When I got back at 8:30 from taking Owen to school yesterday, he had vacuumed the entire house. You just can’t complain about that.
Aron got such sweet and perfect gifts from our friends. He and his brothers have been playing with them all day and I’ve read at least five stories to them, gone through each activity in the pop-up book at least four times, listened to the dump truck song to determine the lyrics for Owen, hugged and kissed Piglet multiple times and built a house of Mega-Bloks with Aron and Ivan. It’s been a good day-after. I relaxed and maintained my goal of not cooking anything today. I have pizzas in the oven as I type and I am looking forward to sitting down with my boys and my man for dinner by Kroger.
Sounds like a great time! Way to plan ahead. I’ve not done much entertaining. It’s always nice to see someone able to enjoy their own party and not feel stressed. I feel bad as a guest that they are going to so much trouble for little old me. I’m glad you were able to have a good time. I’m certain all your guests did too! Happy Birthday Aron!!!!!
What fun! I do love making lists and I also love the fact that they help me to have a good time in the long run 🙂
Yeah for good lists and good fun!!!
