Even the Sparrow

Even the sparrow has found a home,
and the swallow a nest for herself,
where she may have her young—
a place near your altar,
O LORD Almighty, my King and my God. Psalm 84:3

It seemed an unlikely place for a nest…but upon further consideration I realized this little sparrow was just trying to be obedient to the Word.

I am out here early most mornings to have my “quiet time” and have noticed a sparrow who seems very bold to come up on the porch. I also noticed a lot of grass and stuff in the plant when I watered it and even thought it looked like nest material but didn’t believe that’s what it was. Sure enough…the sparrow found a home near the altar.

He/She flew out of the plant as I was stepping out there this morning and then I knew what was going on.

When I came in with the camera still in my hand I witnessed this little bit of drama from my youngest. He apparently dropped some of his blocks and it upset him so much he threw the rest of them on the floor as well. I normally scold him for an outburst like this but with the camera in hand it was a little difficult to click and punish at the same time.

Little people throwing tantrums is one of the most ridiculous things on earth. It has always been funny to me because of the amount of energy used in such an unfruitful way. I realize it’s not funny enough to allow it to continue but I thought you might get a kick out of these pictures. The second picture didn’t focus fast enough but you can still see the look of disgust on his face. Don’t these just make you want to pick him up and spank his little hiney…and good?

Last week some friends from church joined us here at the house and we hung out at the pool for a while and then had some lunch and pretty much nibbled the afternoon away on the back porch. The boys love goggles so before this outing I made sure to get them each a pair to wear to the pool. I happened upon these at Tuesday Morning in Mt. Juliet where I found a lot of unexpected little niceties. It was my first trip there and won’t be my last. I’m getting way off subject in this paragraph but having chiropractic appointments in the mornings has allowed me to do some shopping by myself and I am going to miss that as my appointments are now scheduled in two week intervals instead of three times a week. Back to goggles though…the boys were thrilled with these and I got a couple pictures to share and keep of course. It’s pretty easy to see the frogs on Ivan’s pair but in case you can’t tell, Owen’s have sharks on them.

I will post my limerick later today. I need to go to the grocery store and my challenge for myself is to collect the name (and a little bit of the character) of the cashier who checks us out and use that as my limerick subject. Wish me luck.

  1. What a sweet little sparrow nest! I just love being able to be part of something like that (we had mourning doves on our patio once- Amanda named the hatchlings Kevin (Costner) and Sean (Connery)).

That Aron is too cute. Yes, he’s pitching a fit but it’s still cute.

Love those goggles. And good luck on your shopping trip- I hope the cashier thing works out.

  2. I love Ivan’s face in that last picture *so* much!
Your sparrow’s nest is so precious. I really love birds…and nesting birds are so fantastic to watch. This should be a fun adventure for you 🙂
Can’t wait to hear the limerick. This oughtta be good!
