I thought I’d put up a little photo documentation of some of the things we are growing.
Owen has been begging to plant an apple seed. He had heard the story of “Johnny Appleseed” and every time we cut into an apple he wants the seeds. He has collected several and I’ve even tried to sprouting them for him…but we would always forget about them and never did get one to sprout. The other day, we opened an apple and one of the seeds inside had already sprouted so I threw caution to the wind and stuck it in the dirt. Sure enough…a little apple tree is growing in my kitchen. Owen is thrilled.
I LOVE cilantro. So I picked up some seeds the other day and threw them in the dirt as well. I have grown it successfully before, but not inside where I can keep a close eye on it.
Owen’s class sprouted lima beans at school. He brought the nasty looking things home with him and after letting them sit too long in a baggy, I finally put them into a pot as well. They grew so fast I felt like I could actually see them stretching out of the dirt.
This plant is from Kris’ aunt Gloria’s funeral. I don’t know what it’s called and haven’t taken the time to look it up, but it is pretty and there are now six buds on it. This is what started a lot of the planting as I needed to put it in a larger pot. Once you’re dirty, you might as well get really dirty…and I did.
Well, you know I’m all for growing things so congrats on the sprouty things! I hope your apple tree turns out well- I’ve really wanted one. But I’m now focused a bit more on citrus-y things with a move south on the brain. Growing stuff is kinda fun.
Yay! I love sprouty things. Cilantro seems like a good idea…I cook with it all the time.
I have to say I’m jealous. I have 5 pots on my windowsill that all contain dirt and dead oregano, cilantro, chives, and two kinds of basil. Blah! I’m not sure what went wrong, but I’m bummed about it. Just think, maybe one day you’ll be able to take pix out your back window of the lovely apple tree full of fruit.
You’re ahead of me as usual. I JUST planted my herbs for the year. That’s usually all I ever plant. This year I planted basil, chives, and parsley. BUT, I am also attempting a tomato plant this year and banana peppers. We’ll see how those go 🙂 I think growing things is VERY exciting for kids. I remember our vegetable garden each year growing up. I would go outside everyday to see the progress of our seeds. It was AWESOME to watch and to be able to enjoy the veggies once they were havested. I bet Owen and Ivan are really enjoying your planting and growing.
