I really don’t feel that I have much to blog about. However, in the interest of keeping my fingers busy, I’m going to post anyway.
Couch update: Still stinks. There is an aggravation that comes when you think you’ve avoided messy situations and they seem to creep up on you and bite you in the behind anyway. Kris has grown weary of dealing with the all consuming “good deal” and all the little untold glitches that so often go with it and has committed to the simplicity of saving up, waiting and preparing for buying new. I don’t know which of these categories this couch should fall in as it is both new and a “good deal” but it has come with it’s share of messy. When we purchased our long awaited bedroom furniture from Haverty’s we were very pleased with their service and were quick to turn to them when on the hunt for a couch. This was, however a clearance sale at a store closing…so is it really the Haverty’s we had come to know? Or is it a tent sale with a fancy name? Hmmm.
So, as the story goes…I signed for the couch at delivery and though I smelled a little something I figured it was just the remains of the chemical protection spray. It seemed stronger after a while and I thought I’d just open up some windows, turn a fan on and blow it all away. Soon after I had begun my remedy I got a phone call from Evelyn at Haverty’s. She informed me that the driver of the truck had called and said the couch smelled. I agreed. She said they would schedule a replacement. I asked how they were going to do this because we had bought the last one (without stains) at the clearance sale. She said, “we just got more in.” What!!!! Beverly the sales Nazi had assured us what we saw on the floor was it. Somebody has their wires crossed.
To further confuse that issue I just got a call from Beverly while I was typing the last sentence and in the course of the conversation she mentioned that there was still one couch on the floor and that another couple had purchased two and set them up the same way we did. Whatever.
So…as of this moment the plan is to get these picked up on Tuesday and get new ones delivered on Thursday. I’m going to call Evelyn and have her schedule the pick up the same time as the delivery. We’ll wait a couple more days for the smell to go away and hopefully we aren’t shedding years off the end of our lives by inhaling toxic fumes.
On a more pleasant note, we looked at another house yesterday. I love looking at houses. I still wouldn’t call what we’re doing an active search because we have no plans and are in no hurry to try to sell this one. It’s just fun to look and we are learning a lot in the process.
The model home we saw was in a very nice neighborhood with a nice pool, playground, tennis courts and basketball hoops. The house was smaller than our current house but had the same amount of rooms and the master was just dreamy. A double sided fireplace divided a sitting area from the sleeping area and the bathroom had a huge shower. I like me a huge shower. The other bedrooms were all very small and the closets weren’t very big.
We went to Providence and got smoothies and a few other fun things, then decided to drive back on some country roads in that area and look at properties near the school Owen will be going to. We found one we just loved and looked it up when we got home. We found out it’s worth far more than we expected because it’s on like 100 acres or something. Never would have guessed that looking at it. Of course that only makes it more desirable. Maybe someday. It sure is fun to dream.
This turned out pretty hefty for someone without anything to say.
Read this today and your post seemed to warrant me forwarding it, even if you’re just dreaming: http://unclutterer.com/2008/07/28/25-tips-to-prepare-your-home-for-sale/
Tisra – I’m taking notes on stuff like that all the time, so thank you. I have already made a list of all the “little things” I’d like to do to sell quickly when the time comes. We bought paint to change the purple room to a more neutral green on Saturday. I’m not rushing but I don’t want to wait until the last minute to try to get ready either. One room at a time.
I’m so sorry about the couch. I’m sure it will turn out fine but still the inconvenience and stinkiness is a bummer. Ah, the selling the house journey. It’s so nice when things are clear and you have a definite plan. Until then you can enjoy the changed you’re making to the house. I like neutral green- make sure to show us pictures!
Are you looking at moving to the Providence area? Have you seen the news about some of the housing there not meeting codes or something similar to that?
Just keep it in mind.
Glad you’re getting a replacement sofa! Ugh. What a pain!
