We picked out a new couch on Saturday. The Haverty’s in Murfreesboro was advertising a store closing sale and we decided to check it out. I could write an entire post about our experience with Beverly the hovering sales associate but I won’t…consider this your referral if you need some furniture…ask for Beverly…she’s there for you. After realizing we couldn’t hide, we found something we liked and ordered it. It was 50% off. So we made Beverly’s day and bought two of them! (We just want to be like the Fadely’s…they are sooooo cool.) It’s actually two sectionals. A rounded long section and a chaise. We put the two long sections together for one long couch and then the two chaise pieces will sit separately elsewhere.
They arrived this morning and other than the smell, I really like the way it all looks. They sprayed a chemical on the fabric to protect it and allow us to purchase a 5 year warranty against damages. Beverly told us it wouldn’t smell by the time it gets to us but I assure you it does. They probably didn’t spray them as soon as she anticipated. Not everyone is on top of things like Beverly. I have opened windows and set up the fan at least until it’s too hot.
There is more arranging and moving that will have to be done. You can still see the other couch behind the new one. That will be going up to our bonus room and our long time friend, the “lime green sleeper” (always thought that would be a cute band name) is scheduled to be picked up and put to use by some friends of ours in our Sunday school class tomorrow. I’m almost sad to see it go…so many memories. It’s funny how a $160 couch can mean more to you than the sleek and expensive newby that sits on display. Probably because we thought $160 was a big purchase at that time and our friend Travis found it for us and it was so exciting to make a furniture purchase. If you had seen what we had been sitting on before the lime green sleeper you would cringe.
So…my favorite chair may have to be moved upstairs too. I don’t think I’ll complain too much about that. I would love to have her in my bedroom to snuggle into with a book now and then.
beautiful! is it white? no worries about kids on it or are they forbidden?
I remember the old brown sofa! congratulations!
It’s a bluish green. Light but not terrible. The warranty means that even if the kids stain it, tear it, burn it, whatever within 5 years we can return it for something of equal value.
This is beautiful Mary! Really similar to the one I’ve been looking at. A sectional looks great in that room. Are the side tables new as well?
Yes, the side tables are new. We got three of them so we’ll have one for the other chaise as well.
Ooooh….. I like! Sniff, sniff about the sleeper. I know what you mean- it was very odd to get rid of our first furniture, as well. But, I am determined to NOT BE ATTACHED TO THINGS. So, I got over it pretty quickly. (But I do remember you getting that couch, and being in labor and all your friends sitting on it in your little old house :-))
Gasp! No more lime green sleeper! I’m sad. I guess nothing lasts forever but that sofa said ‘Kris and Mary’ to me. Love the new stuff though and I guess everybody’s got to grow up someday right? I remember the brown sofa with the grand canyon dip in the middle. I felt sad when we got rid of our crummy old sofa too. I cried when we got rid of Chloe’s high chair- like bawled. I’m probably not the best person to comment on stuff like this. Beneath the tough exterior is an old sap that cries about everything 🙂
Love it! Looks like a great napping couch. There’s nothing better than a good napping couch!! Invite me over to watch your boys so I can take a nap on you new couch, er, I mean . . . I wouldn’t nap while they’re up. No, I’d be watching them. But if they happen to take a nap or it becomes bed time, then I’d could test the “napability” (it’s a word – look it up) of your new furniture. once the smell is gone of course.
Looks really good! And that warranty will come in handy, I’m sure…we’ve gone through at least two sofas as our kids have grown. But then again, we’ve gone through somewhere in the neighborhood of 12 moves too..
