Funner and Funner

I’m enjoying my boys so much. The sweet things they say, the cute things they do, each day is a surprise.

Owen took a nap in my bed yesterday. He asked me to sleep with him and when I lay down beside him he grabbed my hand and said he liked sleeping with me. I told him I like sleeping with him too and then he asked, “You know why I like sleeping with you?”

“Why?” I said.

“Because you like sleeping with me.”

Then he turned his head away from me and with a firm grip on my fingers he fell asleep in about two minutes.

Ivan is my sweet and sensitive one. His stubbornness is real and has to be dealt with frequently, but he makes up for it in his love and true affection. If Ivan reaches for a hug, it’s not because he’s buttering you up…it’s because he really likes you. I had to spank him at least three times on Monday. The first time was because he had blatantly disobeyed me. We talked, I hugged him, we moved on but a few minutes later he was standing near me with a troubled look on his face. I asked him what was wrong and he said, “You spank me.” He is numb to no disappointment and sincere in his desire to please. I have never dreaded discipline so much as I do with Ivan, because he does not get over it quickly. I cry with him quite often lately.

Ivan is also quite focused. He loves baths and the other night when I hinted that it was time he lunged forward and was in the warm water before I could do anything to help. By the time I caught up he was sitting in the tub with his bath toys and had stripped halfway. He had managed to take his shorts and underwear off but his shirt was still on.

Aron is becoming a little comedian. When a group of people are laughing around him he joins in and tries his best to enjoy the joke. He smiles for the camera on cue and is learning what will make his brothers cackle. Yesterday while eating out for lunch he grabbed a small plastic container that fit into his mouth and stuck it in, let go with his hand and waited for us to notice. When we did, he took it out, laughed with us and put it back in for more. He is so different from his brothers and I am learning to raise him from scratch it seems. What fun though, to be loved by such a character. I have a feeling that Aron will have us laughing a lot in the years to come.

Aron’s goofy smile montage (this is what he does when the camera looks his way):

  1. thanks for the pics of his funny squinting grin! He was doing this to me last week and I thought it was so funny.

  2. That montage had me laughing out loud! You are so blessed to have such sweet boys that are a wonderful combination of you and Kris.

  3. It’s funny to me how our boys have similarities. Christopher gives me that same grin and adds a back and forth shoulder movement to it. We call it his jig.

  4. Sometimes I’m still amazed that you’ve got three boys! It’s as though these past few years have gone in the blink of an eye- so neat that you now know them and get to discover their lovely personalities. Each so unique and beautiful.

  5. Am I the only one who thinks Aron looks like Mr. Mgue in a couple of those pictures?? Maybe I’m the only one old enough to remember Mr. Mgue. Not sure I’m spelling his name right!?
