Recovery

I am in that state of recovery where I feel pretty good as long as I don’t move too much. My stomach sort of hurts and I feel week and a little dizzy. It feels like I’ve had the flu, but in truth it was just some sort of one day bug that knocked my socks off.

I woke up yesterday with a bad feeling. Not really anything describable just over all yuck. By about 8:30 I was miserable and stayed that way the rest of the day. It was an immobilizing nausea that seemed to have my whole body working on eradicating whatever was causing the problem in my stomach. I would take a few steps and have to rest. My face was drained of color and my skin felt clammy. I was chilled and had a slight fever. Nothing seemed to relieve me and sleep was the only comfort.

As many of you know, being sick and having small children is not a good combination. I contained them in their playroom and laid on the couch while they played. When they slept I slept and when they required me to get up, I growled until they left me alone. Not really. I was able to do the minimal requirements of motherhood. I even made them lunch.

Kris checked in on me and offered to come home if I needed him to but I told him that as long as I could control the environment enough to allow myself to lay down I wouldn’t need him to come. However, if he wanted dinner he was going to have to stop and get something for him and the boys.

He stopped at the store on his way home and got me some Gatorade and Sierra Mist which I had asked for. He also picked up some big juicy blackberries and offered me one. I decided I would try it and as soon as I took a bite I knew that my troubles were over. The dull ache and dissatisfaction my stomach was enduring turned into a full blown rumbling revolt and the horrid relief of emptying that stomach came quickly. I spilled the graham crackers and felt like a new person.

The fever and weakness remained through the evening but I felt so much better I was able to eat a little chicken noodle soup for dinner. Kris took care of the boys all night, got them bathed and into bed by bedtime and made sure I had what I needed as well. All I had to do was feed myself and Aron. I slept pretty well, and woke up feeling much better though still in recovery mode.

The bright spot to such a day aside from Kris coming home was the arrival of my new camera. I’m happy to have a little pocket camera that I can point and click when the nicer camera is just too much to get out or lug around.

  1. Sorry to hear you were so under the weather, but glad you’re doing better! Congrats on the new camera. I’ve been thinking about getting a smaller one as well, but just haven’t done it yet.

  2. I’m so sorry you were sick- and taking care of three boys besides, yikes! I’m glad you’re doing better and yay for your new camera.
