ode
–noun
1. a lyric poem typically of elaborate or irregular metrical form and expressive of exalted or enthusiastic emotion.
2. (originally) a poem intended to be sung.
With respect to the second definition of “ode” given above. I made sure that this poem could indeed be sung. And in respect to Owen, whose favorite song is “Jingle Bells” I encourage you to squeeze a few of the words together and sing the following:
When once upon a summer’s eve
I happened to be blessed
by friend whose heart and hands are free
and bound toward willingness
With no amount of fear or dread
sweet confidence was mine
I handed off my treasures three
and bid them keep in line
While I with lighter toe and heel
drove off to meet my man
The volume dial went up full blast
Just because I can
My list of cares left at her door
instructions, needs and quirks
Which one will cry, which one will sulk
Where each one’s smile lurks
Though one asks questions near non stop
though one is new to speech
though potty training lingers on
her arms failed not to reach
Oh Amber dear I thank you
I owe much more than this
and yet this silly poem I give
for one night off in bliss
what a nice way to thank her! Your excitement at being “free to be with your man” certainly comes through!she sure is a good friend to you!
Oh Mary, such a silly girl.
You owe me nothing. The pleasure was all mine. That’s what friends are for. Though I’m not ready to be mother of four anytime soon, we enjoyed adopting the Kelso boys for the evening. Thank you for the ode. You’re one of the most creative people I know and I admire that about you more than you know! 🙂
Hooray for you guys! Love the ode- very funny.
Exuberance and freedom! Definitely – they shine through in this little ditty 🙂
So happy you got a night out with Kris! This ode is too cute, you’re a funny girl Mary Kelso 🙂
