Hanging Around in the Yard

I had such a fun day with the camera last Monday. The weather in Michigan was beautiful and yet my boys (especially Owen) were determined to stay indoors. I forced them to follow me outside to watch grandpa plant corn. Owen cried and pouted for about an hour until he got involved in a few things. Later he admitted that he was glad I made him leave the house. Without too much explanation here are a trifling few pictures of our morning in the yard at dad’s house:

This is dad marking the rows for planting the corn.

This is the way I initially got Owen to go outside…I told him he could eat applesauce from a cup.

Easy to entertain Aron.

The applesauce was gone and nothing was pleasing this boy.

The large Oak by the swingset cast a very cool shadow on the grass. The camera, or camera operator, did not capture it completely but you get the idea.

The mood is changing.

A look at the little planter dropping corn kernels.

Cute beef.

The pear blossoms are always so pretty and the trees were loaded.

The apple trees were not loaded and I had to hunt for a blossom.

While searching for a blossom I found this in the apple tree.

Owen’s got a gun. Grandpa showed Owen how to aim the BB gun.

I set Ivan up on a limb of the redbud tree. He was a little nervous.

The redbud branches were nice and low but it was still difficult to get the boys and the buds in the same shot.

This will be a bunch of strawberries soon.

This little maple shoot was growing on the East side of the house. I noticed that the mamma maple tree was looking over it as it grows.

The redbud tree has twisty looping branches.

These black capped chickadees found a home inside the trunk of the pear tree. I stood still watching the mamma chickadee inside knowing soon I would see someone coming to visit. Sure enough daddy chickadee brought some food and got a report on the kids. I was clicking as fast as I could (with my limited knowledge of the camera) and still missed the actual exchange of food. If I remember correctly from fourth grade…they say “Chick-a-dee-dee-dee-dee”

Little boys get good naps when they spend the morning outside.

  1. Such great photos! I did recognize that thhe oak shadow was a tree shadow- cool. I’m so glad you guys had a nice time. I really need to head to B’ham sometime during the summer to spend about a week. We usually just spend little weekends a few times a year but it isn’t really long enough. It’s hard for Travis to take time off though and he *hates* it when I’m gone.

  2. Great photos! I love the tears on the swing and Owen with the pitchfork! And, of course, I love-love-love the birdies! I can tell it was a beautiful day. I’m sure you’ll remember it so perfectly years from now because of all the beautiful pictures.

  3. Love all of the great pictures! I love when creative people get behind a camera. Even without formal training you’re bound to get a unique perspective 🙂 Job well done! What a fun and awesome experience for three young boys.
