Write Night

Just got home from a writers meeting for the Night O’ Laughter. I loved it. I laughed until I had a headache. Then I laughed until it went away. Of course my favorite part was when they all laughed at me. It’s going to be a great night if all of this comes together.

The air was chilled today. Mmmm! I love me a little chilled air at the end of April. No rush for Summer for me. I like all those surprise “winters” that pop up after you’ve put all your long sleeves away. It makes me glad that I keep an extra quilt in almost every room in the house. I played kickball with the boys this afternoon. Ivan was hilarious. Running to first base meant nothing too him…just follow that big green ball. Aron laid on his blanket and we used him for home plate. He loves people running toward him anyway…might as well combine that with the need for something large and obvious for Ivan to use as a goal.

I got some boxes today. Last weekend Kris and I decided it was time to get some new dishes. We’ve had a lot of broken, mismatched and chipped dishes for a long time and I really haven’t been too upset about that but after we ordered something new I was sort of giddy all the way home. I didn’t even realize how much I wanted something new. Once it was a done deal I felt a sense of relief over the idea of moving on from what we’ve had. If you know of anyone who has a need for some older dishes, let me know. We decided on very practical dishes from Noritake that are oven, dishwasher and microwave safe. From what I understand they are pretty tough and hold up to children and family usage well. We chose blue although they have a lot of colors that I really like. Blue seems to be the road we chose when we got married and I still like it. I do think that I might purchase an accent plate from each of the colors they have because what made me fall in love with this set was the floral accent plates (pictured). To only have the blue seems a shame so I may just hang all the others on the wall if I ever do get them. They were running a very good sale and we were able to get several of the pieces for $5.99 each with free shipping. It was still a pretty big purchase for me…I have such a hard time with that. It’s not that I don’t want to spend the money, but I feel like I’m committing to something huge and final. I have a hard time saying what I really want because it sounds so outlandishly selfish to want something so trivial as new bowls. I got over it though and the giddy got hold of me on the way home. So three boxes arrived today and there will be more to come. Apparently the order gets passed from store to store and everyone just fills in what they can until we get all of our stuff. It’s been fun.

Thursday I’m leaving for Michigan for a few days. I’ll take pictures and show you what I love about the north. After I paint my brother’s bedroom. Because he asked and I really do like to paint.

  1. So pretty! I think the accent pieces are a MUST! I know what you mean about those large purchases, though. I talk a big talk when I’m poor, but when I have money in my pocket, it’s so hard to make a final decision on any major purchase. Sometimes, picking a pair of jeans can nearly send me to the loony bin.

  2. I think you, Becky and I inhherited our appreciation for blue glasswear from our mother. What color will you paint the old bedroom? I can’t believe he doesn’t want a lilac bedroom anymore!

  3. Yay for new dishes!

I know you’re going to Michigan for more than painting, otherwise I think it’s hilarious that your brother would have his sis do the job for him. And, yeah, what color? 🙂

  4. Joel doesn’t know what he wants so I have suggested some neutrals like taupe and beige. I think what he really wants, is help getting the wallpaper off. Then the paint. There’s only one wall with paper so hopefully it will come off quickly. He’s getting a steamer to help with that process. The problem is that it’s been there for 36 years.
