I met Kris after work tonight to go to dinner together while Eric and Tisra had the boys. We decided to eat at Chappy’s which is right across the street from where Kris is currently working.
As we are crossing the street a woman who was stopped at the red light yells from her car at me “Are you just having one…?”
I was willing to ignore her but she yelled something again and Kris answered for me. I was sort of ticked and unwilling to acknowledge her but caught myself and smiled as I passed her car. Her kids were hanging out the window staring and I wanted to yell something like, “yes, only one but I do have two more who are all by the same father…and I’m married to him.” But I didn’t think of it until I was already inside the restaurant.
Wow! I can honestly say I’ve never experienced anything remotely close to that. It’s amazing how rude some people can be. I am so sorry.
I can relate. I had a woman run up to me from clear across the mall to ask if I was having twins. Why does she care?! Why torture a person this way?!!!! I really wish you had been quicker on the comeback. Maybe she would have thought next time. Grrrr.
Girl. . . You got 2 or 3 babies in there?? Do you remember that? The big FAT cleaning lady at the old Kruse office building. That was what she said to me in the elevator when I was only 4-5 months pregnant. Some people have real NERVE and complete ignorance as to what is appropriate and what is absolutley not appropriate. You look fabulous. You just look like you swallowed a basketball 🙂 I mean that in the nicest way. . . you’re nothing but belly.
Amber: I do remember that. I think of it every time I get one of these comments. Classic! I remember your comeback too, but I don’t think you gave it to her either. Even when people are blatantly rude, it’s hard not to be nice to them…we’ve been so brainwashed into thinking we have to watch our tongues. 😉
I read that and still can’t believe it. Where do these people come from?! HOW is that acceptable and what other horrible things do they say to others who have more of a “condition” than a growing baby. My goodness!
Yeah – I got asked that same question a lot with both pregnancies. Don’t you hate thinking of those biting remarks too late? Now you’re ready, though. Next time, let it fly!
