Yesterday, being the highlight of Summer holidays was very peaceful around our house. We were invited out to grill with friends or hang out at the pool with other friends, but opted to spend our day enjoying the elbow room and schedule free beauty of staying home. Owen went outside a little to play with the neighbor kids, but most of our day was spent enjoying the air-conditioned house.
Breakfast was pretty much fend for yourself, I made the boys simple smoothies by adding milk to their favorite yogurt. Then I busied myself cleaning a much neglected kitchen. Kris played with the boys, we all hung out, talked, laughed and enjoyed the freedom of all being home at the same time with nothing particular to do. I made pudding pops and Jell-o pops before lunch and then started in on our simple prep. I had purchased hoagie rolls for lunch along with yummy deli meats and choice of four cheeses. Kris and I enjoyed these after putting the boys down for a nap. They had peanut butter and jelly of course, they wouldn’t have it any other way.
We watched a movie while we ate and relaxed for a while, only to find that Owen wasn’t sleeping at all and was soon up to see what we were doing. His curiosity would not rest I suppose.
We discussed going somewhere for a while in the evening, just to get out of the house for a little while. We concocted a plan and then set out to make dinner. Pre-made pizza dough from Publix, topped with our favorite meats and cheeses made a simple but tasty dinner and then we got ourselves ready to leave.
We chose to go miniature golfing at Grand Old Golf. I have been wanting to see what Owen can do with a golf club as he seems to want to use his baseball bat and ball in that manner instead of what they are designed for. They also have a go-kart track with two seater cars that I thought he would enjoy. We all had a really nice time. I basically just pushed Ivan around the course in the stroller while Kris and Owen played. Ivan got a little bored during the golfing, but never complained, just started leaning forward in his seat to see if there was anything more interesting going on. He loved watching his big brother and his daddy in the go-kart. Continuously pointing them out to me, in case I hadn’t noticed them myself. Owen did quite well for a three year old golfer. I was actually impressed with his skill. He seemed to really enjoy it.
We left after just enough activity and got the boys ready for bed in time to step outside and watch the array of neighborhood fireworks at our disposal. It was like being in the center of a popcorn popper. They were constant and quite nice for a free show. We enjoyed it for a while and then returned to our climate controlled shelter to end our day. We were in bed at a decent hour, and felt rested and peaceful. Isn’t freedom a good thing. God Bless the USA!
Sounds like it was just what you needed.
What a nice day! We lounged by the pool until about 3:00, then it was showers and naps for me and Madison before we all headed out for dinner and fireworks. It was so nice to have that break in the middle of the work week.
Amber – on our way home from the golfing Owen wanted to know where you and Madison were. It was around 8:00 so I told him you were probably at dinner with Derek’s daddy. He said “I want to go by there house and see if it’s empty.” Not sure what that was about, but I thought it was sort of funny.
