Catch 22

Have you noticed that having a lot to blog about usually means that you don’t have time to blog?

Such is the case for me lately. I have had a lot going on and as much as I would like to relate all of it, I have been a little too preoccupied to do so.

So in a nutshell…

Dad came down last week and brought sweet corn from his garden. Becky and I froze around 70 quarts of corn between us. It was a long day of husking, cleaning, brushing, blanching, cutting and bagging. The kitchen was a mess (her kitchen) and that was before we did anything to the tomatoes that he brought with him.

The following day was Saturday and Kris and I had a meeting that morning with Brent’s board so we were a little late in getting started on the tomatoes. Dad came down to our house and watched the boys for us and then He and Ivan and I drove back to Becky’s to make and can salsa. There were a lot of tomatoes and he’s got a lot more up there yet. Becky had things started of course by the time I got there but it took several hours to get them all cleaned, scalded, peeled, crushed, mixed up and canned. We made around 30 quarts of salsa.

Dad had a little fender bender leaving the church Sunday and though I’m not cheering that my poor brother’s truck was messed up I’m glad that dad wasn’t in his own car. Joel’s truck wasn’t air-conditioned so dad’s window was down when he got hit, keeping him from hitting his head during the side impact. Joel’s truck sits up higher so the impact wasn’t directly on dad’s body like it would have been in his little hatchback. The accident was deemed “no-fault” so no one got a ticket. I haven’t heard anything about the guy in the other car. He had to go to the hospital but it didn’t sound like his injuries were terribly serious. He had no license and no insurance and I really don’t think he was born on this side of the Rio Grande.

Kris left on Monday for Boston again and the boys and I had the house to ourselves for a few days. He was really only there from Monday night to Wednesday afternoon but it feels like three full days because we didn’t see him from the time he left for work on Monday morning until we met up at church on Wednesday night. During his absence I got a few projects worked on, not necessarily finished, but worked on and I played with the boys quite a bit.

Yesterday morning I took Ivan on his first bike ride. I put both the boys in the little bike trailer and rode around the neighborhood for about 30 minutes. They really seemed to enjoy it and I will probably do it again as the weather permits. Yesterday was really nice and I’m hoping we have seen the last of the intense heat for the year. Owen talked a lot on our ride and told me where he wanted me to turn and came up with a couple of different options for our destination. Ivan just sat and stared. I think he was pretty fascinated with having a view going down the road. He normally only sees up and behind from his rear facing car seat. I thought they might have trouble sharing the little trailer but it went really well.

Yesterday afternoon I went to church early to shoot some video for the Night of Laughter. It went really well but made for a long evening. We had a guest speaker at church last night and he talked a long time. He was funny so it didn’t seem like it was going that long but that mixed with a meeting after service made for a very late night.

Today we had Ivan’s 9 month check up and the boys are both napping now. It’s been a very quiet afternoon so far. I haven’t done a lot of house work but I did finish sewing some quilt blocks together. There’s still more to do before this little sundress top is done, but I’m glad to finally see this much progress. Our sewing party last Thursday night helped me a lot.

So…now…Labor Day weekend is approaching and I have no plans for Monday. I’m just glad Kris will be home.

  1. Well except the fact of your dad’s accident!
Sorry to make it so light hearted in my previous post.
    Glad he is ok.

  2. Busy, busy. Glad your dad is ok. Does this mean you guys will be moving soon? Or is it just “normal” for Kris ti travel so much?

  3. Hey girl. Just checking in on ya. I thought I’d let you know that I’m trying my hand at blogging once again. A short break is good for the mind, I think. So anyway it’s at http://michapalooza.blogspot.com if you are interested in keeping in touch that way again.

JT will be home hopefully tomorrow, so I’m excited as all get out. I haven’t really been online too much lately but I’m gonna try to make another effort at communication and keeping-in-touch, as my hermitude has really started to get the better of me lately.

    Miss ya!
    Mich
