There are a number of things to think about but none seem terribly interesting when I sit down to type.
If I haven’t mentioned it, we are building a wall. The foyer downstairs has been open on three sides and we are closing it in on one side to create an office for Kris. The contractor we chose is doing good work, unfortunately it seems to be taking longer than he and I had hoped. He explained the biggest factor in the hold up to me and I believe him, but I also see that there are things keeping him from being here to work. For instance: on Wednesday he never came at all but said he would. He said he called to make sure I was here but got my voicemail. Well, I was here all day long and there was indeed one phone call that I was unable to answer because I was helping Owen go potty. No message was left and nobody called back. So…how can I know to let you know I’m home if you don’t leave a message? I don’t think he’s dishonest or slow or in anyway a poor worker, I think he’s just got lots and lots of work and it leaves him spread a little thin creating time issues for me. There have been other situations like this since Wednesday, all involving communication, and he has only been here three times to work on the wall. So…it wasn’t done before the weekend as I’d hoped.
My weekend held the long awaited Portrait Party on Saturday, which thanks to Amber was a success. I invited everyone who had shown interest the last time I tried it. I believe I sent 12 e-mails and mailed out around 14 invitations. Only one of those people said they could come, until Amber’s plans changed and she was able to make it. I was glad for those two, but Amber has other friends who she knew would be interested and boom, we soon had three more guests. So, five appointments made for a nice day and I got to meet three more little families who live nearby. The photographer was happy and I think she made a good impression. She may have gotten another party out of the mix. I will receive 15% of their total sales off of my order so I hope they like their pictures.
Later on Saturday we went to the zoo and then out for dinner. It was hot but so nice to get out and relax with Kris and the boys. We went to look at fish at the Aquatic critter after dinner and Kris started getting that aquarium bug again. We may have to set the old tanks up again before long. It would be more fun now because of Owen’s excitement. He had a blast in the store.
Yesterday we had another incredible service at church. It seems like we are almost guaranteed a thought provoking, seemingly personalized sermon each week. Sunday school was good as well. Kris did a great job teaching and we had a new couple join us as well. That’s two in the past two weeks. We came home from church, had lunch together and relaxed most of the afternoon.
Owen has been doing well on potty training and I’m hopeful that we will be diaper free very soon. He still doesn’t want to wear underwear each morning so I’m not sure when he’ll get over that, but I know it will happen. I think all of this potty stuff feels like work to him and he’d rather just remain in diapers where he feels secure. That will change…that’s why it’s called training right? He always seems fine once he gets them on. He still doesn’t seem to feel much remorse for accidents so I have started putting him in time-out when he pees on the carpet. This seems to help. On Saturday, he tried to get to the potty and actually peed some on the floor and some in the potty. I felt a bit of a dilemma because I didn’t want to ignore either fact. He usually gets candy for going on the potty and time-out for going on the floor. He got both. Also on Saturday, after going on the floor we got him cleaned up and before I could say anything he headed toward the corner and said he was going to sit in time-out now. I had to laugh, because he still cried about it but knew that it had to be done so he was getting it over with.
This morning I need to run to the store for a couple of little things and I have some clean up to do, some straitening and some laundry, but over all the house is ready for another house guest. My friend/cousin Shannon is arriving this afternoon on her tour around the country visiting friends and family. She just got back from Africa and will be setting up residence in Texas again soon, so before settling into life as usual she is driving and flying to see everyone that she has missed for the last few years. I haven’t seen her in almost five years so I’m so glad she is doing this. I have wanted to make the trip to Houston to see her but with kids and pregnancy and all it’s been a little bit difficult to make it work. She will arrive sometime this afternoon and leave Thursday evening.
So, the weekend was good…I’ll have to have another one sometime.
I forgot about your portrait party…it was Cody’s birthday though and we took him out to buy him that monster soccer goal you now get to see outside. I hop e it doesn’t bother you. It was what he really wanted.
I would love to see some pictures from your portrait party, and sorry that guy is taking too long. I hadn’t had him do any work for me, so I had no idea when I told you where to find him.
Have fun with Shannon. :o)
Sherri – He’s here now, if you don’t see the truck, working like he means it.
I’m glad he came to get the job done! Glad you did have some people for the portraits after all! Ok I’ll get to training the little one.
how’s the wall?
Awww! Thanks for the kudos.
I’m so glad the party turned out so
successful. Can’t wait to see the pics!
