Ideas

Have you ever had an idea that you just weren’t able to see happen? I have often envisioned a piece of furniture or a painting that would be incredible but there’s no way to get that vision from my head to my living room since the rest of my body doesn’t hold the skills to make it happen. One idea that has been fogging my mind off and on for over two years is a story idea. I have a concept, a humorous plot, characters and scenarios that are very alive in my mind but I don’t feel that I have the skill to put them on paper in such a way that others will enjoy them as much as I do. Ever had that feeling? I even have an opening line… Before his death, Beatrice’ husband was not a clever man. However, since his death he had not only gained a quicker wit, but had become somewhat Machiavellian in his demeanor. I wish I knew a famous author who could take my idea and make it breath.

  1. Hmmm, maybe you’re the famous author and just don’t know it yet. Free write. Just jot down whatever comes to mind and then re-write it, then tweak it and you may just come up with a chapter. I believe in you…because you’re the wind beneath…just kidding. You should write though.

  2. Oh Amy! You had me laughing. đŸ™‚

Mary, she’s right, though. You’ll never know what a great job you can do until you try it on and walk around a bit. I’m convinced that with a great story, average writers (and I’m not saying that you are or aren’t) can create a great book. Likewise, great writers don’t always produce great work. Go for it!

  3. The thing with writing is you just write out your ideas and you don’t have to show anyone. And once you’ve got a first draft – which doesn’t have to be good – you can go back and fine tune it.

    Writing is rewriting.

  4. I know what you mean… I’ve had book ideas too, but mostly decorating and design ideas. Sometimes ideas for a new item of clothing. I bought a notebook and colored pencils and have started sketching these ideas when I get them. I have no way of making these items a reality, but perhaps someday someone will and I’ll sell them my ideas.
