The World Gone Mad

It has been a while since I posted and I cannot say as I am so entirely inspired at the moment but I do feel the need to keep this thing somewhat current. So off I go into my spinning and weaving to free my mind of secrets that need unkeeping.

The floor in my kitchen hasn’t been swept in over a week. Is that too much information?..I’m sorry if it is, and I’m sorry that I’ve disappointed some of you. I promise that when Ivan starts crawling I will do better. As it is, you can’t tell unless you look closely or if you happen to glance under the chair where Owen sits. Ew.

Wednesday afternoon Kris and I got a phone call from one of the nursery staff at church requesting our assistance in a little creeper world gone mad. Apparently the volunteers on the schedule for the evening were off having a baby themselves and couldn’t find a way to show up…slackers. Anyway…we obliged them and did our duty by the sniveling little ones and took on our share of the snot and tears that are ubiquitous to the creeper room. This means we will not have to be there this Wednesday which is nice as I have a very busy week ahead and creepers make me tired.

Thursday. Thursday. Thuuuuursday. I had a nice day Thursday. My cousin (actually Kris’ cousin but I’ll claim her as mine since she’s willing to hang out with me.) Michelle, and I met at the church playground to allow our two little boys (Owen and Gabriel), who are second cousins and both pretty darn cute, to run and play like the monkeys that they are. It just happened to be Gabriel’s 3rd birthday so we had cake, presents and party hats too. After downing a little lunch and cake we all headed back here to check out my dirty kitchen floor and Michelle left Gabe with me for a little while so she could do a little exploring and shopping. The sewing party that night ended our little day together and we each took our separate selves home to rest. Me to my husband and boys and she to her empty house where echo’s of the husband who is now in Iraq haunt all the silent spaces inside and outside her poor heart. Pray for Michelle…I know I would want you to if it were me missing my man.

Friday was a quiet day until the phone call around 6:30. Pastor Sandy asked if I could put a skit together to create attention and support for the Women’s Seminar next weekend. She totally gave me an out…I knew I didn’t have to do it, but how could I resist? I love performing and I love a challenge so I told her I’d think about it and I did. Then I prayed for an idea. Saturday morning it came…I typed for about 30 minutes and it was done. I called Becky to see if she would do it with me…of course she would. I called Pastor Sandy and read it to her over the phone…she approved. All the technical things were worked out over the phone throughout the day. Last night Kris patiently searched, and rescued me with a sound effect he downloaded from somewhere out in the wiry wonderland of the internet and this morning we rehearsed it during soundcheck. We performed it without incident and the reviews were good. It was only a few minutes long but it has consumed my weekend…funny how that happens. I am not one to perform and forget about it either. I’m as consumed afterward for want of praise and affirmation as I am for courage and creativity before. Sad…I know.

This afternoon we drove to the new Target that just opened up on the South side of Mt. Juliet. Wow. I knew there was a plaza being developed but I had no idea the extent of it all. Providence Marketplace is going to hold dozens of stores and already has some of our favorites up and running. The Best Buy, Targetand JCPenney are open, JoAnn, Old Navy, TJMaxx and Homegoods are built and opening soon and finally a movie theatre on this side of town. I didn’t see any restaurants yet but from an article I found there will be plenty of them soon. It’s pretty impressive and I can’t wait to see what will yet unfold.

This is long enough now and Owen is begging for my attention. I must stop.

  1. Mary, I really loved this entry.
I had an awesome time Thursday with you and the boys as well. (And a great time exploring. Hehe!) I think we should definitely hang out again sometime soon.

    And about the floors:
Girl. I couldn’t even tell your floors were dirty. You’ve got one of the cleanest houses I’ve ever seen. I think you are just awesome and your kids are obviously healthy and happy and I think that is more important than floors. Sometimes it’s all I can do to sweep and mop once a month…though I try.
    I wish I had carpet. ^_^

    Much love,
    Mich

  2. I was bent over picking up a piece of puzzle and did see under Owens chair.
EW! But I didn’t criticize. I’m learning. I have a house to clean too.

  3. I would just like to say that I took the cutes picture of Chloe and Halle and didn’t notice the tons of COBWEBS behind them until the moment had passed and it was too late to clean it up and re-do it. So there will forever be cobwebs in that photo (ok, I actually didn’t notice it until I posted it to my blog-grrr- no fair scanning the pics looking for them, although they are so obvious you probably already noticed but were much too nice to say anything about it.) So, I’m sure Owen’s crumbs are fine.

So cool that you were able to write and perform a skit for church on Sunday! I’m sure it was great. You and Becky have really good chemistry so I’m sure everyone enjoyed it.

Sounds like Mt. Juliet is becoming the place to be. If we didn’t go to church in Brentwood it would probably be a contender for places to live.

  4. Mary, Remember me? I have really missed reading your blog. You are a very talented writer! I always wanted to be one….maybe you will inspire me to try harder….
P.S. My kitchen floor is dirty and I have no little ones at home! Unless someone is coming to visit or my grandson is coming over, I don’t get very motivated to clean…..

  5. How is it that in all the people that go to Cornerstone its always you and Becky doing the skits? You do them so well that others are intimidated to break in on the action, I guess. I’m sure it was great, you’ll have to tell more about it. Or what about posting the dialogue?
