Beware of the “Lady-Guys”

Owen: What’s that up dere?

Mary: Up where?

Owen: Up dere…is it lady-guys?

Mary: (waiting silently for more clues)

Owen: Oh! Now dere’s two lady guys!

Mary: (finally catching on) Oh…do you mean ladybugs?

They weren’t ladybugs but I think that’s what he was trying to say. I thought it was cute.

A few days ago I mentioned that he caught something, and he is doing much much better. He still coughs a little but his nose and his eyes have cleared up a lot. He doesn’t sleep well when he’s congested (who does?) and will often wake up coughing but he’s only half awake. Just enough to make noises and whimper and cry and wake me up. I usually go in and see if he’s okay but he doesn’t even know that I’m there. I have (when awake enough myself) sung to him and calmed him down that way. My boys both seem to react to that and it makes me feel good to have some means of bringing peace to their minds. It makes sense I guess…music, especially worship music, brings peace to my mind too. Anyway…my point was that Owen slept peacefully all night last night and I was so pleased. Too bad Ivan had to wake up at 4:30.

Yesterday, I took the boys to get pictures at JC Penney’s. I got a really good one of the two of them together but the pictures I really wanted of just Ivan are a bit mediocre. I won’t have the actual prints for a couple of weeks and I’m hoping they look better than the computer screen did. Regardless, I may try to take some on my own, I just don’t know if I can create the lighting and backdrop that I have in mind. Anybody have any spare black velvet lying around?

  1. Poor sick babies and Mom that has to take care of them. I feel for you.

Hmmm, black velvet? Sorry, I’m fresh out. I think it’s a good idea for you to take their pics though. I was going to suggest it if you hadn’t. I’m sure your will be much more creative than the standards you’d get at Penney’s.

  2. No black velvet, but Jess (scrapbooker Jess) has mentioned before the amazing diffused light that floods in if you take a shot in the garage with the garage door raised. I saw the pics and they were good. Natural light, in my opinion is always best- just make sure you aren’t in direct sun or it will cast shadows.

  3. I love Owen’s conversations. He is such an intellectual for being so small. I would imagine between yours and Kris’ creative talents and technical skills you could capture perfect pictures of your boys. I had used a black fabric backdrop for Madison’s birthday party diva photo sessions, but it wasn’t velvet and I’ve since thrown it away. I think it was Wal-Mart $1 fabric!

  4. As someone else said, I’m fresh out of black velvet. I like the lady guys. Very cute. Bella is in a dither about bugs right now. Not sure what the deal is but she is freaked. Screams, cries, loses her mind. Not sure what to do.

  5. Traci – Owen is that way about dead leaves. It’s very disturbing. He will be so embarrassed one day when I tell him he used to be afraid of leaves.

Tisra – That’s a good tip. I remember Amber showing me a photo that she said was taken by a photography student in her garage. I remember thinking it odd that she would shoot in her garage but maybe that’s why…inexpensive lighting.

  6. Mary, I can’t remember when I said I would host. I am wracking my brain and can’t remember! Let me know.

  7. Mary, You and Kris are both extremely creative and talented. I’m sure you could open your own photography studio and do unusual photographs. We all get so bored with the “usual” but then grandmas like me will settle for any pics of her little darlings…..
