Oh What A Night…

Last night Kris and I each had different Christmas dinners to go to. Mine was with the Ladies Board from church and we met downtown at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse. It was very good and we had a very nice time. I took Owen to Amber’s house for the evening and he had a great time. He has been so good since he got home and even this morning he has been more cooperative and sweet. Maybe it was the Kool-Aid she gave him. I took Ivan with me and I did get a few funny looks bringing a baby carrier into Ruth’s Chris, but he didn’t make a peep all night and most people didn’t know he was there. I left the restaurant around 7:45 and headed to Donelson to join Kris.

His dinner was with the MTUG and was held at the Plantation House restaurant. He seemed to be having a good time and Ivan and I simply made an appearance and left. Kris is probably the youngest guy in the group so having a baby there created some disturbance among the grandmothers. They were very sweet and one lady said he was the cutest thing she’s ever seen. Awww.

I went from there, back to Amber’s house to pick up Owen, who as I mentioned had a great time. He was a bit of entertainment for them as well as he tends to be a bit quirky already at two years old. Hopefully this doesn’t mean he will grow up to be eccentric.

We got home after 9:00 if I remember right and Kris had already arrived. He and Owen played for a bit and I fed Ivan and we all tried to go to sleep. Ivan wasn’t having anything to do with it. Kris and I were up every 15 minutes trying to keep him quiet and I was so exhausted I felt like crying. I was also dealing with an upset stomach and I’m not sure why. Surely it wasn’t from my dinner. I still have pain in my tummy this morning. Finally at about 2:30 or so I went downstairs and warmed up a bottle. I had been trying to feed him but he either wasn’t getting anything or it wasn’t lasting because he would not rest. He took some of the bottle and I laid him down and he didn’t get up again until 6:00.

looks so innocent doesn't he?Owen was already up and playing in the playroom by that time. He was doing really well except that he insisted on having all the lights on and playing with the Leap Pad toy that talks to him. I went out there with him and closed the door hoping Kris could get a little more sleep before heading to work. I laid on the couch and fell asleep with Ivan while Owen played. Every now and then Owen would come up right in my face and ask me a question to which I would groggily reply yes or no. I have no idea what I was telling him but it satisfied him and he didn’t get into trouble so I guess we are okay.

Tisra is supposed to stop in sometime this morning and see the baby. Of all people, she has helped us so much and yet hasn’t seen the baby since the day he was born. That makes me feel bad. I am planning to have a nice visit though and make up for it. Then I have a few little plans for the day and believe me, a nap is definitely on the list. I believe our friends Kendall and June will stop in tonight sometime after dinner and I’m not going to let Ivan sleep at all today so that he won’t do that to us again. Like I have a choice. You can’t wake up babies…they sleep like they’re in a coma.

  1. ah, I do not miss those precious, all mixed up with night and day times. Try to get some rest. Be careful, too. RSV is a scary thing for little ones to get. Lots of colds out and about.

  2. I’m so glad I got to visit with you today. I wanted stay, but didn’t want to ruin sleep/rest/recovery time nor put you out. In the end, you made me feel assured that it was okay, and it was a lovely, if slightly interrupted, time (seriously, with two 2 year olds, an infant, and a newborn…did we *really* think we’d get to talk much?!). Ivan is gorgeous, you look great (even though you say you haven’t been sleeping) and Owen is as charming as always.

  3. Oh, and the picture…it has an artistic flare to it with the shadows that is unexpected and lovely. Lovely is my new word, I must stop using it. Seriously, stop me.

  4. I enjoyed today too. Thanks for all the little things you did around the kitchen too, it was so nice of you. Owen had so much fun with Dean and Lael, he told daddy all about it. Thanks for the compliment on the picture. I took it early this morning after I had forgiven him…not too hard when he looks so sweet. It’s my new wallpaper too.

  5. As usual I loved watching Owen. He’s always such a treat to have around. I miss those “2 year old” cute things . . . the things they say, think, and explore. He’s such a unique 2 year old too, as he’s behaved, laid back, and compliant.
