Blocks

Owen has been playing with his blocks more. Kris’ mom bought this box of wooden blocks before he was born I think. I know they were stored in the nursery at the old house for some time and it was one of those things I couldn’t wait for him to be interested in because I remember playing with colored wooden blocks as a kid. He has played with them off and on now for some time but has never been so interested in them as he has the past week or so. He will sit for long periods of time arranging them. He will stack them or build something occasionally but most of the time he just puts them in order of shape or color or both but in long strips or wide strips or a big square. He sits and works quietly and I get a real kick out of it. I wish that I had started taking pictures of his arrangements and keeping track of all the different ways he organizes them. The other night Kris was gone to a meeting and Owen was playing with his blocks and the Noah figure from a Noah’s Ark set he got for his birthday. Lifeboat NoahI found the Noah encased like this and thought it was sort of cute so I got a picture. I am probably the only person who will think this is cute because I’m his mom but I’m going to make you endure looking at it regardless. Another funny thing about Noah…whenever we see a Santa Claus picture or statue he calls it Noah…you can see by the picture why he would think that I guess. I’m introducing him to Santa and hopefully he’ll be able to make the distinction.

It is Saturday and we have had a productive day…at least I feel that way. We went to Sam’s and bought enough stuff to kill a mule. We are trying to get all of our Holiday stuff taken care of so that we aren’t forced to go out for things when we have company or the baby is here or whatever. I already have some things made and in the freezer but there is a lot to think about and I’m rather excited now about the prospect of preparation. When we got home from Sam’s and were all unloaded and put away we had lunch and put Owen to bed. Kris and I watched a movie and I fell asleep. I think I really needed that nap because once I woke up at 4:30 I felt and still feel so much more energy. I have neglected to take naps during the day lately and opted instead for sitting and watching something or just resting off and on in a chair or whatever. I think now that Joey is gone I should take advantage of that freedom and sleep for at least a half hour. I had forgotten how much good it does. We’ve now had dinner and it is nearly time for Owen to get a bath and go to bed.

Tomorrow will be a very busy day with church then home to eat a quick lunch and prepare for a Thanksgiving dinner with our Sunday School class. We are going to meet at a couple’s house up in White House, TN so I need to have all the food ready and the car packed up by 3:00. Should be a good time.

  1. How neat! Owen is beginning to display his inherited focus and organizational skills. And to do this at just 2 years, well I think he is way advanced even if I am grandma.

  2. LOL – Tisra and Traci…maybe he was being cruel to the animals. I never noticed the expression on his face until I took this picture but you’re right…he looks all fierce. It made me think of Moses and some of the pictures drawn of him holding his staff over the water or the people when the built the golden calf. Maybe the toy manufacturer makes a Moses doll too and just uses the same mold. There is a little staff that goes with the doll but we have it put away because we didn’t want Joey choking on it. Tomorrow we break out the choking toys again.
