My sister Kristy had her second child on Friday of last week. I couldn’t be there as she lives far far away, in Slovenia. Her first son ,Clay, was born just one month after Owen and we have had a lot of fun whenever we can get together with them and force the boys to take pictures and play together. They are very different in nature and look very little alike as they both have a lot of their daddies in them. Kristy and I have often been confused with each other, though I personally think we look very different now. When Kristy had Clay she was about two weeks early and he weighed under 7 pounds. This was a stark difference from Owen who was over 9 pounds. This time she was almost a week over-due and young Thadeus (notice I didn’t say little Thadeus) was 9 pounds and 7 ounces. What a difference. He looks so large compared to what Clay looked. I was finally able to talk to Kristy yesterday and she is doing well but had a rather rough time of it. Though I’m sure that she will eventually update her blog I thought I would give a brief report here and wait for more details from her later. She was admitted to the hospital on Friday morning because she was dilated to 3 but did not seem to be in labor. She had the baby that evening. She was not in active labor most of that time and though uncomfortable and though her regular doctor was not there she and Timothy were okay with the situation and tried to be cooperative little patients. She was progressing slowly and her doctor was beginning to get impatient. She and Timothy prayed that the baby would come before his shift ended. Before long she told her doctor that she needed to push. He didn’t believe her of course, but when she insisted, they soon realized the baby was crowning and she indeed needed to push. She worked very hard and got very tired but she made progress and they realized the cord was around the baby’s neck. They began yelling for her to get him out quick and she did her best. When Thadeus came out he was quite purple and not terribly responsive but the doctor left the cord until it was through pulsing, massaged the baby and soon his little cries filled the room. Kristy lost a bit of blood and had to be stitched up in a few places but is fine now and resting at home with her boys. All are content and happy but don’t ask her when she wants to do it again…she doesn’t want to talk about it.
Welcome:
Thadeus Kane Hall
August 26, 2005
9 lbs. 7 oz.
22 inches
I figured she had had Big Boy Thadeus since she hadn’t updated her blog to “Still No Deliveries IV”.
Glad to hear all is well.
Congratulations Auntie Mary!
Congratulations on the new addition to the family! Glad most went well. Giving birth in a country other than the US seems dicey to me. But of course lots of people seem to get here!
We will be praying for Kristy and baby Thadeus!
Traci – She was telling me that they have all the modern equipment and environment that we have here but the administration is a little behind. What she liked is their willingness to allow natural and unconventional birthing on a more widespread basis. Here, you can find doctors like that but they are a little harder to come by.
He looks so big. I can’t imagine having a newborn baby so large. I remember thinking my very average sized baby looked enormous upon her exit.
I remember that too, Amber. I thought she looked like an 8 pounder at least. I remember how strong she was…holding her head up and looking around like a little chipmunk.
