Dad is gone for a couple of days so Owen and I waved goodbye to him this morning but we expect him back tomorrow night sometime. My brother called yesterday and wondered if dad would be interested in driving to St. Louis to catch a baseball game. Um…Yeah! So off they went around 10:00 this morning. I would like to go to St. Louis too but I have these things called responsibilities. Anyway…maybe another time. It actually worked out well for my dad because a friend of his that he went to school with lives about 125 miles outside of St. Louis and had a stroke recently. He had mentioned wanting to go see him but thought the drive would be too out of the way…now he has more of an excuse and I think he’s grateful.
Yesterday was nice. After settling down to rest a bit, Amber called and wondered if I would like to join her and Madison at the pool of a friend of hers. She has access to her friends pool key and Madison had a half day of school so they wanted to spend an hour or so cooling off at the pool. I had already sent Owen off with dad so with just Joey in tow I drove to her house and then to the pool. We had a nice time. The water actually felt pretty cool at first as it was fairly overcast for the first 45 minutes or so that we were there. It warmed up quickly as the sun began to show off and Joey got too hot even sitting in the shade. I felt bad for him so we packed up and headed home. Our timing was perfect. As soon as I had taken my shoes off the doorbell rang signaling dad and Owen’s return. As soon as they were in the house with all their stuff we were given a wonderful downpour of rain. There was a lot of thunder too and it was nice to relax in the house for a little while. I got some of my quilting done…not as much as I’d hoped but some. I made some phone calls and did a little cleaning and took it easy. When I took the garbage out in the afternoon the rain had stopped and the air felt somewhat cool, so with Joey sleeping, I took Owen outside with me and I pulled weeds for about 20 minutes. I had left the window open a crack and when I heard Joey cry I quickly cleaned up and got inside. His parents came soon after and boy was he glad to see them. He’s teething and nothing is as comforting as mommy.
My dad had mentioned wanting some of mom’s pizza. She used to make pizza crust that was more like a biscuit dough. I had the recipe so that’s what we had for dinner last night. He said it was “close” when I asked if that’s what he was wanting and I’m almost positive that if she had snuck down to my kitchen and made it herself without him knowing…he would say it’s not quite like hers. Anyway…I think he enjoyed it, even if it wasn’t exactly what mom used to make. We also cut up half of a cantaloupe that dad had grown and brought down with him. It’s rare to taste one that sweet and we all enjoyed it very much.
I was able to cut the grass in the front yard this morning and pull a few more weeds. I also used a weed stopping agent on the beds to hopefully keep them from coming back so fast. We’ll see how well it works. Please let it work! That is one chore I could live without. I never get so dirty as I do pulling weeds.
It is lunch time now and I hear Owen downstairs getting into things. I plea for attention no doubt. I must oblige him.
Fresh cantaloupe melon- my mouth is watering!
Sounds like you’re doing so much. Between reading Kristy Jo’s blog and your entry, all I can think about is how I didn’t want to do anything but sleep when I was pregnant and that each activity or chore was me forcing myself to do it. I’m happy for you, but very glad for myself that I’m no longer pregnant.
OH yeah! I second that comment Tisra made! I still don’t get how you can mow with two little ones in the house and no one to watch them. Are you cloning yourself?? ; )
Well, you guys don’t understand what I cut out. Just ask my patient husband…there’s a lot that doesn’t get done too. As far as mowing with two kids…I wait till the little one is soundly sleeping (even if he wakes up, he’s not mobile enough to do any damage to himself or anything else) and the other one I either take outside with me or sit him down in front of a movie…today it was “Piglets Big Movie”. His temperament allows that, but I totally understand that when little brother is his age it may not work so well. Owen is my wonderfully laid back boy.
Owen sounds a lot like Amber. I am able to trust her with so much more then I am Analynn. Sometimes I feel bad for Analynn not to get to do things, but if she would not get into trouble as much then I could trust her.
You’re so fortunate to have your Mom’s recipes. My parents talk about my Grandmother’s biscuits from time to time, but she didn’t have the recipe (or any recipes for that matter) written down so when she got sick her recipes were lost.
Mowing lawns, pulling weeds…you’re making me tired and I’m not pregnant. I totally “third” Tisra’s comment.
