We are getting a new bed today. Not for Owen, but for us. Kris and I haven’t been sleeping very well and obviously part of that is pregnancy for me, but it’s also pretty apparent just from looking at our bed that it’s not too comfortable. There are two Kris and Mary size dips in the bed and they aren’t going away with a simple flip of the mattress. We have been very faithful about our mattress flipping but there just comes a point where they get old. We even tried setting the mattress on the floor to see if it was simply the box springs that were the problem. Not so. We still have shallow holes to sleep in. It’s not too bad when I’m not pregnant cause I can get comfortable at some point but since I’m moving a lot it wakes Kris up and then he’s reminded that he’s not comfortable and it’s hard to get back to sleep. Kris found a good deal (all in all we’re paying about half price) on Ebay for a Select Comfort bed and we really hope that it is as good as all the radio talk show hosts say it is. It is supposed to arrive today so by tonight we’ll be on a new mattress.
I’m not sure what this means for Owen…I think we may keep our current bed for a guest bed and possibly put Owen on the full size bed that belongs to Eric and Tisra but somehow wound up in our guest room, instead of buying a twin. We haven’t decided. That seems like such a big bed for such a little guy, but eventually he’d love it I’m sure.
That’s the big news for today. I got a lot done regarding the Night of Laughter last night. Becky and Nikki (from church) came over to help me finish up some of the writing and we were down right productive. Now I just need to type it all out and get final approval on everything before handing out scripts. I think it’s going to be a good night.
I think if you use the full size bed for Owen it will be so much temptation for him to play around on the bed all night, and he will have a difficult time getting to sleep. Think about it, but you can buy toddler-sized beds at Toys-R-Us for I think 50 dollars…and they’re pretty decent. You might even be able to find something used on Amazon.com that’s decent.
I think if I tried a full size bed for Gabe…it’d be giggles and stomping and jumping around until 3 in the morning.
I’m sure it would take time but I also know that he could learn to use it. We’ll see. We have the twin frame so buying a mattress for that is not out of the question either. Kenny and Linda gave us a rail to tuck in too so that he doesn’t fall out of bed easily.
At Sam’s (or probably even Costco), the beds are very cheap. We got Grant’s twin bed and boxspring for 80 dollars. Once we got the bunk beds, we couldn’t use the box spring any longer and it has actually been in our garage waiting for us to have a garage sale. So, I know you could buy a box spring (nearly new) from us for very cheap. Additionally, I would recommend just buying a matress and putting it directly on the floor so that he can get in and out easily. As far as the full bed of ours goes, the story is: we had to put a crib in the guest room, we lost the ability to keep the guest bed up. You became a storage facility of sorts, because we figured you could use it in the mean time for your guests. At some point, though, when she is out of the crib I hope to use it for her since we spent at least 300+ dollars on it.
I forgot to add, OF COURSE Owen can use it until then, but knowing that we will probably want it back in a year may help you decide on whether or not to purchase bedding specifically for the full bed.
I knew why we had it but I didn’t know what your plan was for getting it back. I’m glad you said so…I knew it was a nice bed and that it wasn’t ours but I didn’t know if it was just up in the air or if you would eventually want to get rid of it or what. Yes, that makes a difference, and without talking to Kris…I’d say we want to buy your box spring, but I don’t know how soon. When were you planning to have this garage sale you speak of?
Not sure on the garage sale- there is a subdivision sale in Sept./Oct. that would be good. Really, we don’t have a ton of stuff, but have started to accumulate a few big things that need getting rid of: box spring, grill, lawn mower, baby stuff possibly by the time of the sale. Beyond that, we’ll just have some little things…maybe a lot of little things?…provided we can do more organizing. Anyway… I bet you’re so excited about your bed. We’ve been talking about a new bed for AGES. I fell in love with one of the Select Comfort air beds when we tried them in the store. I loved the super-duper mega fluffy top-o-the-line pillow top one, but we’ve never brought ourselves to spend the 2,000 dollars on it (or maybe it was more?). Ahhhhhh.
Actually, their absolute best version goes for over $4,500. Of course, that’s just the sucker price – I mean, sticker price.
Yes, I’m very excited about it. We did not get the pillow top but felt it was worth the great price and hopefully we won’t miss it. There are other things you can do to make up for a pillow top so we will do a little research on that if we need to. It is their 5000 series, so not top of the line but still sounds like a great bed. Their 9000 series is the one with the extra 6 inches of pillow top. It looks incredible and at $4,500.00 you pay for it. I like their website…you can pick all your features and see the price without having to call someone or go to a store.
Oh, wait…for you guys it would be $3,550.00 for the 9000 series because you already have a frame and you have a queen size.
Yeah, I knew it wasn’t $4500, but choosing queen was the difference.
Okay, I have nothing to add to the mattress coversation, but the Night of Laughter part made me kind of sad. I’m happy for you that you got a lot done last night, of course, but I remember when Amy and I got to help you with it last year (the song parody, anyway). That was much fun. Too bad we live in a different state now. (Just another way to say you and yours are missed.)
Jealous of the new bed. I slept in a different bed for the retreat and it wasn’t perfect but it was a ton better than our current bed. But am happy for you! : )
