It’s been a week since I really updated and though I’ve had time I just didn’t want to sit down and write for that long. Here are some highlights in no particular order:
We did some shopping at the mall, and hung out with friends. Had the opportunity to go to church with Kris’ parents which we weren’t expecting to do since our original plan was to leave on Sunday. Owen had a great time in the nursery and the service was very good. We had dinner with Kris’ cousin Trisha and her husband BJ who are expecting their first child one month after our baby is due. It was very nice to catch up with Trisha and get to know BJ a little better. We also had time on Friday morning to go to the pool over at Meema’s condo. It was so nice and Owen had a great time. On Monday we drove to Tavares FL to visit Brent’s Parents. As often as we have been down there and as close (1 1/2 hours drive) as they are we have never taken the time to visit with them. It was nice to have that extra day (provided by the storm) to catch up with them and see how they are doing. I had been to their house many times before I met Kris but it has been at least 8 years since I had been there. We drove back to Lakeland and had lunch with Kris’ mom at a little place downtown. We had Cuban sandwiches and I must say I really enjoyed it. We left there, stopped in at Kevin’s office to say goodbye and then on to visit Shane and Angie. Here again, we didn’t think we would have opportunity to see them because they were on vacation all week but since we stayed longer we were able to make a quick visit. We had an early dinner with them and then headed back to Kris’ parents to enjoy one more evening of playtime with Owen, card games and conversation.
We left for Tallahassee on Tuesday morning and got out the door exactly on schedule. Our drive was nice and very uneventful allowing us to meet up with Grandma and Grandpa Kelso at lunch time. That afternoon we rested some and spent a little time outside picking blueberries and looking at all of grandpas vegetables and flowers. That night Grandma made roast beef and mashed potatoes and for dessert we had blueberry cobbler. Kris’ aunt Cindy and her kids came by the house and we played a game of Trash Train (I won) with the dominoes. Owen was put to bed early because he did not get a good nap that day and he was asleep within minutes. We moved him to a pallet on the floor once he was good and comatose and then went to bed ourselves. In the morning, Owen woke up first and though he didn’t know where he was or that we were in the room just above him on the bed he rolled over saw a Lego on the floor and said…”One Lego” and started playing. Soon he heard us in the room and was very excited by our presence therefore destroying any chance of sleeping in. We wanted to get up by 7:30 anyway to get out the door by 8:30. We went to breakfast at Shoneys with Grandma and Grandpa and then hit the road, pointing our little car toward Birmingham.
We met up with Travis and Amy and their “three beautiful daughters”, as Chloe informed me, just outside of Birmingham on the way to Helena. We ate at a nice burger place called Incahoots and most of us didn’t get burgers. I think we would have enjoyed our meal more had we taken advantage of their specialty. We walked around Old Town Helena a bit and took in some of the quaint shops settling down in the coffee shop for coffee and ice cream. It was so nice to see the Buttons again and we really hated to leave but with four hours of driving yet to do, we didn’t have much choice. Next time…we stay longer.
We got home around 8:00 and I was so pleased to sleep in my own bed again. I loved our trip and had a great time but it was nice to get home again. Owen and I went to the grocery store this morning and stocked up for the coming days at home. He was exhausted when we got back and almost immediately went to bed for his nap. I’m doing laundry and cooking for tonight and tomorrow. Tonight we have a sewing party scheduled at LaDonna’s house and I am planning to go and make progress on something. I hope there are others who are planning to go and hang out because I would love to see the girls again.
Tomorrow we will connect ourselves with Florida friends again. Chris and Christy Sallee and their two incredible kids will be travelling through Nashville on their way back to Florida from Indiana. They will stop just for a little while but I would like to offer a brunch of sorts before they hit the road again.
We had such a wonderful visit with all of you. And aren’t Owen’s pictures adorable?
I was going to say- good pics of Owen! But, I don’t think I’ve seen too many “bad” pictures of Owen. Kids in general, are very photogenic.
Owen is adorable–so happy we got to see him when you were in Florida. But I really LOVE the photo of my Buttons!
