It’s been a wonderfully busy week. I’ve had stuff going on at all times. Monday…I can’t even remember Monday…what happened? Oh…I went to Publix with the boys and got a few things. Doesn’t sound like much but it took us a long time to just get out the door. Joey was hungry but not wanting to eat and Owen was very clingy because Joey was taking up so much of my time. It was a bit of a juggling act and I needed groceries so bad. I was out of bread and turkey and cheese and that has been my staple during pregnancy…turkey and cheese sandwiches. I had to go get some so we went to Publix and just got the necessary items to make it through till Tuesday.
Tuesday started out much better and we went to Wal-Mart first thing. We were able to get all the rest of the things on my list and both boys were very well behaved, though it took a lot of coaxing to get Owen to stay with us. He has to be a big boy and walk in the grocery store since I have Joey in the front of the cart now. That afternoon, Becky and Chele and their kids came to the house to practice a song we are singing for the 4th of July service at church. That was an adventure. Lot’s of kids, lot’s of needs to meet and lot’s of questions to answer. No…you may not play with the toys downstairs, yes…that is a toy. They wanted to play outside but it got too hot to stay out there so they were forced to play in the play room. They survived. Soon after they left, Joey’s parents came to get him and about 20 minutes after he left our next group of kids arrived. Grant, Dean and Lael stayed for a few hours while Eric and Tisra went to a class at their church. They were very well behaved and as it was Grant’s birthday on Tuesday we had lots of play time and I served Jello. I know…what a treat…but it was about the best I could do. The weather cooled off quite a bit and by 7:30 it was very pleasant outside. We kicked the ball, played on the swing set and ran around. Kris took a few pictures and Lael slept through most of it. I did wake her up which I probably shouldn’t have done and gave her some milk. She was so sweet and cute and cuddly and drank her milk and I think I could have kept her. The boys washed up a bit and put on pajamas Lael was transferred to the baby swing and we sat down to read a book. We read “A Giraffe and a Half” by Shel Silverstein and were about to tackle “The Giving Tree” when mom and dad showed up. It was a busy day but ended so peacefully it seemed quite worth it.
Wednesday was fairly productive…I had to mail off Father’s Day cards and gifts so we went to the post office in Hermitage and decided to drive a little further down the road to take the boys for a walk on the greenway. I put Joey in the stroller and Owen walked. We were very slow and it was very hot, but we stayed on the shaded portion of the path and had a nice time. I pointed out lots of trees and flowers to Owen who seemed interested but maybe he was just being polite. Joey fell asleep and Owen got tired before we made it back to the car. I explained several times that I could not carry him and he could not ride in the stroller. He did not seem to understand and was very unhappy and kept begging to be picked up. Finally I had him ride on the step of the stroller holding on to the sides of the handle. It looked comfortable enough but did not cease his whining. What it did do was enable me to walk a lot faster and get them both to the car before losing my mind. When we got back home, they both slept for quite a while (I love sunshine) and I was able to rest a bit too before tackling a few chores. Last night was church and I worked in the creeper room. There were lots of kids and lots of crying and I was so glad to get home to my peaceful little boy and his handsome daddy.
Today…I’ve accomplished little, but I am feeling a bit of a spark now. Isn’t that great…it takes me till 2:15 to get a spark. I need to work on that. Maybe I should get to bed earlier. Joey just now finished his first bottle and that alone makes me feel like we’ve accomplished something. I decided to include a picture of Joey this time since I’ve talked about him so much. There he is, in all his glory…you’d never know it is hard to feed him would you? He’s becoming more comfortable all the time and I really think we’re making progress on the feeding thing. It sounds like both boys are asleep at the moment so I’m going to go get busy.
I really can’t express enough thanks for wathcing ALL THREE KIDS on Tuesday night. I have prayed that you receive big blessings for your help. Surely, you have sowed into our marriage by caring for our children while we take this “Christ-Centered Marriage” class. I’m very excited about what God is going to do!
