Everyday Life

I Skipped Friday

I neglected to tell anyone about Friday, and I had a very nice Friday. I babysat Joey and he was a good boy, Owen was good and very funny in his attempts to be helpful. Every dirty diaper is “trash” and needs to be taken to any open receptacle that is handy. Every whimper whether in our house or heard from the kids next door is met with raised eyebrows and the name Joey in the form of a question. “Joey?” he says and looks at me as if to say…”shouldn’t we go help him?” Even this morning he has looked around and asked for Joey wondering why he isn’t here.

Kris called in the afternoon and said “the office is closed.” I was confused, having completely forgotten the holiday weekend. He reminded me that he had a long weekend and it was so nice to have him home early. We just hung out until Samson and Ann came to pick up Joey around 4:00. We discussed options for our evening and decided to eat dinner and then go for a walk. We drove to the Stones River Greenway and the three of us walked and took a few pictures. The weather was wonderful and we got some good exercise. Owen walked on his own quite a bit but we pushed the stroller along too so that if and when he got tired we wouldn’t have to carry him. He did very well. The picture above is a particularly pretty part of the trail at the beginning if you start at the Kohl’s trail head. Owen was swinging his arms and moving along like he meant it so we snapped a few pictures.

When we left we were all a little warm and pretty tired from our walk and decided to stop at Wendy’s and get a couple of small Frosties to share. It was perfect. When Kris and I were dating we were both pretty poor and our dates usually consisted of some activity like walking through the park and going to Wendy’s for the “thimble size” Frosty. It was fun to do something so simple and sweet again and of course now we have Owen to enjoy it with us.

We got home, got baths, got Owen to bed and settled down to sleep before our very busy Saturday. Kris and I both had to get up early for work and choir rehearsal. The rest of the weekend was sort of a bummer for Kris but I was able to weed my herb garden and get my kitchen clean while he worked at the office on Saturday afternoon. Then yesterday…though Kris felt it a complete waste of time and gas…I had a nice time driving to Tullahoma with him to see a fly-in that didn’t have any planes. I just enjoy going places that I’m not familiar with, seeing the small towns and little shops and roads that have silly names that almost seem like private jokes, understood only by the locals. The scenery in that area is beautiful as well. Manchester is very close to Tullahoma and is the sight of the Rock Festival Bonnaroo. It’s a gorgeous place and well worth the Sunday drive if you ask me.

Today is Memorial Day and I’m looking forward to more outdoor activities and fun with the Fadely’s.

  1. I really enjoyed Monday- thanks for sharing it with us. I think I’d have to agree with you about the car trip. Sometimes its just nice going for a drive, even if the destination wasn’t what you’d hoped.

  2. This is a beautiful shot of Owen walking ahead! I’m sure he will treasure it someday!

I love those dates that remind you of the good old days! You’ve got to love the Frosties! Our favorite was the Slurpee!
