Owen has been saying “I don’t want you” to me, but I don’t take it personally. What he really means is I want you but saying “don’t want” has come to mean both “want” and “don’t want” just as “Dan’t you” is said when he is giving or receiving something. He’ll figure it out.
Yesterday, he took a very long nap and after I got him up I let him play in the play room upstairs while I went downstairs to check on Joey. I stayed down stairs having been distracted by my dirty kitchen and other mundane chores that needed attention. I realized after a while that Owen hadn’t followed me down as he is known to do, and I didn’t hear him playing upstairs. This usually means he is into something he shouldn’t be so I ran up the steps to see where he may be. My first thought was to look in our bedroom where my computer is. He will sometimes spend quiet time typing on my keyboard. Any number of things can happen as a result of this activity so I looked there first. He was not at my desk and as I turned my head back toward the play room I spotted him. He was laying on the love seat with his head on a pillow and he had pulled the little afghan up over himself. He was just laying there looking at me. I said, “are you tired?” to which there was no answer so I said, “can I take your picture?” He said “yeah.” So I went to get the camera. When I got back he had gotten down and gone to the couch and done the same thing…laid his head on the pillow and covered himself with the afghan. So my picture isn’t the original pose but you get the idea.
Joey was pretty fussy yesterday and it was sort of hard to get much done but I was able to get some dinner ready for my men before I had to leave for the church. I took my dinner with me and met several people at the church to write for the Night of Laughter. It went really well I think. There were six of us including Stephanie, who did not come to write but rather to observe. I took lots of notes and there were so many things being bounced around the table I had to type fast to keep up. I hope I got everything. There are several other people I want to run ideas by and see what they come up with and I have a lot of detail work to do in order to put it all in script form but I feel confident that what we have will produce some funny stuff.
Stephanie Sulliven is going to be my right hand woman the night of the event. Pastor Sandy and I both agreed that I need someone to do the dirty work for me. I am so non-confrontational that I have trouble telling people what to do in a way that makes them believe they need to do it NOW. In fact most of the time I form my commands into questions and people believe it’s optional. Not good…I know. So Stephanie is keeping tabs on each aspect of the event in order to know how best to order people around the night of. She is excited about it and it gives me a chance to get to know her better.
Owen’s personality is really starting to come out now- how fun!
