I’m Back!

I know it has been a while since I posted and I make no excuses. I just haven’t felt like it. I am home in a quiet house now listening to Paul Harvey in the background. Owen is in his crib, not napping and Joey is downstairs in his swing, sleeping soundly.

Maybe I should introduce Joey. Joey Boyd is 4 months old and quite the chunk. He is a very content little guy and still sleeps a lot. He is the son of Samson and Ann Boyd who are in our Sunday School class. I’ve been watching him since Tuesday and he is a good baby who is content to lay down on a blanket and stare at the ceiling fan for long periods of time. It has been a real adjustment for Owen but then Clay has been here this week so it’s hard to tell which unsettling guest has bothered him more. We shall soon find out.

Kristy and Clay left this morning to fly to Chicago where they will get on another bigger airplane along with my dad who will meet them after his flight from South Bend. Dad will spend three weeks with them in Europe. He will be able to see their place and where they plan to move and also get to visit some old friends of his in Germany. Kristy was ready to go. We had a nice time and I know she felt comfortable with us but once Timothy left I could see the enjoyment of a visit drain from her. I didn’t blame her and know I would have felt the same way had I been so far away from Kris for a week. Especially when Clay is so sensitive to his absence and she’s 5 months pregnant…these are things that wear on the emotions.

The picture above is from our trip to Michigan. Kristy and I returned dad’s van to it’s home in Burr Oak and enjoyed visiting and showing off our matching toddlers to family and friends. I say matching very loosely as these boys look very different in almost every way. Several people have told us they think they look so much alike but I just don’t see it. Owen enjoyed seeing dad so much. He would run to Grandpa and yell “Papa! Papa!” which of course melted the old man’s heart. Clay was a little less comfortable as he hasn’t spent as much time with “daudy” as Owen has. I’m sure that will all change after his visit. Dad is raising some little steer to eventually butcher and they are still milk fed. Owen got a real kick out of watching these big babies drinking from their “bucket bottles”. I got video, but not pictures I’m sorry to say. Our drive home was uneventful and we made pretty good time considering our cargo. It was fun to watch the boys interact, especially the last three hours of the drive. They were giggling at each other and singing and clapping happily until they both went to sleep. That was nice. Kristy and I took turns driving which was absolutely necessary as we were both exhausted from our whirlwind trip. It was good to get home. I hope that Kris can come up there with me again soon.

I’m going to go now…Rush has been on for 20 minutes and I’m going to rest just a little before going out to meet Melissa and girls for a bite of lunch.

  1. I’m with you on the boys not looking alike. Maybe since they’re both cute people think they look alike or maybe they think it’s what you want to hear.

You’re dad in Europe? I hope he has fun.

  2. I agree, also, that it has nothing to do with the boys looking alike (because they don’t at all). They are just the same age. LaDonna and I get asked if Lael and Allen are twins if they’re in their carriers next to one another. The same for Halle and Lael. “Oh, two babies of similar size right next to one another- these must be twins!”. Strangely, last year when i watched Owen and he came with us to Jake’s birthday party, I had a few people ask me if Dean and Owen were twins. Like other strange comments that people tend to make, I think it’s just evidence of people trying to start conversation or reach out.

  3. Not that I think they look alike really, but I would say Owen looks more like Dean than he does Clay. I would guess that Kristy and I are more likely to have kids that look similar since she and I look most alike of my siblings but Owen and Clay have too much of their daddy’s in them to look alike.

Dad has been to Europe before. He was stationed in Germany before he married my mom and he and mom visited several years ago. He really enjoys it and since he can actually speak German does pretty well at least in that country. I couldn’t see him spending a lot of time in the more romantic places but you never know.
