The Party’s Over

Well we had our little baby shower. The mommy was blessed with lots of goodies for little Marco, who will arrive in about a month. Big sister Faye was sweet as ever with hugs and kisses for all in attendance and grandma Linda was proud as punch. Punch, since I brought it up, wasn’t on the menu. As I had decorated in a simple theme of primary colors and toys I put fruity sodas into a large tub of ice and allowed the girls to pick their own flavor for the day. This also allowed me to save what wasn’t all drunk up for future entertaining whenever that should come about. The tub is now a part of my blue collection in the kitchen. I made the cake myself which saved us $20.00 to $30.00 and though it isn’t perfect, it was well received and I owe much appreciation to Duncan Hines and Betty Crocker for their contributions to the party. I got several comments on how moist and yummy the cake was. I hate it when I can’t take credit. I was sure to tell everyone that I put the eggs, water and oil in by hand.

It didn’t take long to clean up again despite the missing book and legos that were kindly distributed throughout the house. A special thank you goes out to two year old Demetrius who quietly and determinedly found creative destinations for anything he found laying on the coffee table. Had I known that there would be three kids there, I might have placed some of the decorations a little differently. At least they were real toys and weren’t damaged by being played with. All things were found and put back in their place quickly and no carpet was damaged any more than it already had been. There were several close calls with some strawberries and some black cherry soda though.

Saturday is nearing it’s end and as is true every weekend I’m sad to see it go. My time with Kris and Owen was short today but memorable. There were 15 balloons at the party and they have kept Owen happy for the past 2 hours. Kris got some pictures of him playing with them too but I haven’t seen them yet. I think we’ll relax with some smoothies for dinner tonight and maybe some hot tea before bed time. Tomorrow promises us good times and I’m looking forward to it.

  1. Mary, that cake looks great. You can certainly take credit for the decoration and design, even if it wasn’t “from scratch”. Some things just aren’t worth it. I must say, that the cake looks better than store bought and professionally decorated. Good job!

  2. Well, thank you for the very high praise. I will say that the photo (which has been reduced therefore lessening the details a bit) hides many of the flaws in the cake. But I will not say more and accept the compliment with a blush and a “thank you.”

  3. Will you make me a decorated cake when we come? I really like decorated cakes. That one looks good. I found a new favorite cake recipe at allrecipes; Simple and Delicious Chocolate Cake. We can’t buy the boxed mixes here. It calls for one cup coffee, but since Timothy can’t stand the taste I put in one cup milk. It’s really good.
