I had my 33rd birthday yesterday. It was a wonderful day. Kris stayed home from work and we played with Owen for a good part of the early morning and then we all headed to Lowes to look for a ceiling fan for the living room. We had some Christmas money we had not spent as well as a 10% off coupon so we shopped their lighting world and found something we thought we liked. When we got it home we realized it wasn’t put together quite the way we had hoped. Our room is wired for a ceiling fan and has an extra switch to turn the fan on and off. The fan would have completely bypassed the switch and would need to be turned on and off by a remote control. I like the idea of a remote but mainly for the speed of the fan. I had already put Owen down for a nap so Kris returned the fan by himself and bravely set out to pick out another one. He found one that I was able to pull up on the internet and give my approval. We got it put up last night and it looks so nice. It was actually cheaper than the original fan we brought home first and I think now, looks much better. It does have a remote but it is wired so that we only use it to control the speed of the fan and we are able to use the switch to turn it on and off. Happy.
I had told Kris some time ago what I wanted for my birthday. I have learned that waiting for someone to surprise you with exactly what you want requires them to know exactly what you want in advance…otherwise you may be surprised but you may not like what you get. I have decided it is better to forgo surprise and get straight to “what I want.” I love to go to the movie theatre and I love to eat out. It’s so simple but yet it is rarely something we do. It requires a financial miracle to go to the theatre these days and if you want some popcorn you’d better have a loan approved before you go, because you’ll probably have to finance it. Eating out is a luxury for us. We have a perfectly functioning kitchen and capable hands to make our own food, so paying someone else twice or even three or four times as much to feed us is really unnecessary. Therefore, dinner and a movie are a treat…special enough for a birthday present when you turn 33 and have a 17 month old child. We did have one of the young couples from our Sunday School class watch Owen for us. They are living close to Rivergate where we chose to see our movie and eat our dinner.
We decided to go to a matinee and save a few dollars. We got a little candy and a drink which brought our total to $17.00 I think…I’m sure Kris will correct me if I am wrong. The movie we chose was “Hitch”. Neither of us knew much about it beyond who was in it. We expected to laugh but I think we both felt we got a little more than we expected in the humor department. After the movie we drove to Logan’s Roadhouse for dinner. I know some of you are thinking…”Logan’s! That’s not a special date kind of restaurant.” but trust me…I specifically asked to go there. I like Logan’s and I haven’t been there in years. I have driven by several times in the past few months and thought…I need to go to Logan’s again. So that’s where we went. It was a nice time, the food was good, the service was good, and the company was of course perfect. Kris made a great day for me and I greatly appreciate it. Happy, happy.

Hitch was funny. I enjoyed it. 🙂
I had heard Hitch was good and I almost suggested it to you guys. Now I gotta see it. Glad your birthday was happy!
I haven’t seen Hitch yet. When you say you got more than you expected in the humor dept., does that mean it was “laugh your butt off funny”? If it is then I definitely want to see it.
Logans is great; yeast rolls, steak, you can’t ask for much more than that.
I was laughing pretty hard, yes, the character Kevin James plays is really, really funny. I hesitate to say too much because I know I always think a movie is better when I don’t know much about it, so don’t go just based on my opinion. Also keep in mind it is PG-13 and there is one F-word and several s-words. I sort of felt like I should have been a little more discriminating regarding that stuff. If they had left it out though (which would have been so easy in this film…all cussing was completely unnecessary) it would have been very clean.
Hitch just got here this past week already. We’re amazingly not far behind the U.S. in movies. Mincy Hines used to be employed by Logan’s (I think it was Logan’s) to be a “secret shopper”. She used to eat there all the time for free and then get paid a little on top of that. I was going to look into that if we had stayed in the States.
Happy Belated Birthday! We’ll have to go see Hitch. We don’t go to too many movies either because of the cost. We rent instead…..The last movie we saw at the theater was Because of Winn Dixie. I know , it’s mostly a children’s movie but hey, the choices were, well not too good! Anyway, the movie seemed a little lame at first but turned out to be cute…..
You can always check out movies beforehand on Plugged In. They are pretty thorough and straightforward…..
