Everyday Life

Day 4

Wow, what a day I had yesterday. The headache remained a memory and the menu is becoming a little more bearable. I was doing pretty well all day…had most of my “chores” done and was getting ready for the board meeting. I made chocolate chip cookies from scratch and didn’t even lick my fingers. I gave Owen a fresh one and wish I had gotten a picture. Chocolate everywhere. I found a recipe for meatballs that were Atkins approved and then decided to go to the store to get a few things that other people could eat…like carrots for dipping and stuff like that. I also wanted to get some soy flour after having been informed that it was possible to bake with it and still be inducted into the Atkins family.

When Owen and I got to the store I started getting him out of the car and smelled that familiar, full diaper, nasty, poopy smell. I decided to just lay him down in the front passenger seat and change him right there. As I was pulling his pants down however…something gave way in my back and I was frozen in pain. I was able to finish my job with Owen and get my groceries but it took twice as long as normal because I couldn’t stand up straight. I finally got home and called Kris to tell him that I was not going to be able to fix dinner. He understood and brought home some salads for us. Kris took care of everything else in preparing for our guests and I sat on the chair and gave orders. Everything went very well and all the cookies are gone, never to tempt me again.

Today…my back feels a lot better and I should be able to make dinner. I have been taking it very easy so as not to further aggrevate things but have been productive none the less. I have been cutting and preparing quilt blocks today. I need to take a picture of my work. I tried something I’ve never tried before in placing an applique on a quilt block. It turned out really well and I’m quite pleased with myself. I also spent a little time at the computer designing a little pattern from scratch for a little girl quilt. I was able to create a pattern, print it out and use the peices to create the applique block I worked on. I am just lacking one color of fabric and I will be able to sew the entire thing together. Maybe I will have the back strength to dig in my fabric tomorrow and find it. I know it’s in one of my boxes but I cant lift the ones on top to look for it.

I’ve attached the diagram for the quilt that I created but those aren’t the colors that I had to work with. They just look good on screen so that’s what I used. The colors I have are from scrap fabrics and they are quite bold. I haven’t decided whether to call my pattern “Sally’s Sundress” in keeping with the old Sunbonnet Sue pattern or just simply call it “Sundress”.detail of block
