Birth Days

Kris had a birthday on Thursday. I made him chicken cordon Bleu for dinner as requested and we watched The Perfect Storm before we went to bed.

Friday he took the day off. He gets a day off for his birthday every year and can take it any day of the week that his birthday falls in. He opted for the long weekend and we had a good day. First of all Owen slept until 8:30 which is unheard of. I actually got up on my own and was able to get a shower before I had to go get Owen out of his crib. Kris was able to sleep even longer and Owen played very nicely all morning. He didn’t want to go down for a nap at his usual time because he got up so late so he endured a lot of errand running before he had a chance to actually lie down again.

We went to Home Depot to get a bunch of computer and electrical things I don’t understand very well so that Kris can hook up our wireless network downstairs. We went to Lowe’s to see if there ceiling fan selection is any better than Home Depot’s. We went to Legends for lunch (not great) and then drove to Donelson to the old house where I picked up sticks in the yard that the storms had blown down and Kris inspected the house to make sure everything was still running properly and all. We stopped at the P.O. Box and then the bank. Owen stayed awake until we left the bank. He fell asleep on the way home. He still needed a real nap in another hour.

Before we went on our errands we got a call from my sister Kristy in Slovenia. She called to let us know that she is pregnant, again, and will be having a baby in August. As we talked we figured out that had I been able to continue carrying our baby we would have been due almost exactly the same time. I was due August 16 and she is due the 23rd. The only thing that is so sad about this pregnancy of hers, is that I won’t be able to see this new little one until he/she is nearly a year old. Unless we travel to Slovenia. I would love to do that of course but I don’t know as budget will allow it any time soon.

Just as we were beginning to try to get Owen down for his nap we got a call from Elaine, our realtor selling the old house. We had an offer. Not a good offer but it was worth looking over. We countered and they countered and we countered again. Basically what it boiled down to was the young lady wanting to buy the house wasn’t able to get a loan for as much as the house is worth. She tried to get us to come down nearly 10,000 once we paid closing costs and her down payment. We can’t do that. We need to get a little more equity out of the house than that. She argued that the other houses in the neighborhood were going for the price she asked…which is true, but the other houses were smaller and the sellers weren’t paying all the closing costs and down payment. We’re anxious to sell the house but we’re not desperate yet. All in all it was quickly over and our excitement over an offer didn’t have too much time to hype us up.

Then at 6:30 we met up with some friends for ice cream at Amy’s Frozen Custard in Mt. Juliet. We had a really nice time. We should do that more often. Kris had fun talking to everyone and the food was good, although the service was slow. Before we left, Kris and two other guys pre-arranged for an online meeting for gaming. He played only one game but it lasted for nearly four hours. He was up till 1:30 and finally came to bed with this excited, mischievous look in his eye. The look he gets when he has done something clever and fun. I’m glad he enjoyed himself.

For the first part of his game Owen and I watched a movie together. He sat in my lap and we watched My Dog Skip. He was content and really watched the movie. There is a scene when the little boy has a birthday party and the mother brings him a box with a dog in it. You can’t see the dog you can only hear it whimpering in the box. Owen immediately perked up and started saying…”doggy, doggy, ruff, ruff.” He loves dogs and of course a movie about dogs was so much fun. He laughed when the dog caught a piece of bologna in his mouth and when he ran really fast and growled. It was great. I need to get some more dog movies.

  1. I wish we could have been there last night- I was looking foraward to it. Happy birthday, Kris! And congratulations to Kristy! Of course, I better tell her myself as well.
